Niepoort are the shining forward thinking stars of the Port house world. They like to combine old school techniques and tradition to make some of the world's most respected old school style Ports, but also release a load of experimental stuff, both fortified and table wines.
Here we have a fun, light and soft expression of a usually monster grape variety full of tannin - Baga. They use carbonic maceration (adding Co2 when fermenting, to promote uber juicy flavours and drop tannin) and release in a 1L bottle for extra fun.
We're in Bairrada, in between Porto and Lisbon, with fruit from 80-100 year old vines (old vines = concentrated juice) and hands off wine making resulting in a pure juicy, fresh red with delicious florality, berry fruit and a teeny spritz when opening that blows off quickly.
