At this point it's so popular, it's almost a cliche! This was, and continues to be the flag bearer of the London based natural wine scene.
Vinho Verde means 'green wine' but refers, in fact, to the region, Minho, just north of Porto, which is the most humid and green region in Portugal. Here, Loureiro and Alvarino are the main grape varieties, indigenous to the region. Loureiro brings structure and cooling acidity to the wine, while the semi-aromatic profile of Alvarino brings citrus and floral aromas, with light spritz to add to the freshness.
Basically this is crushable, cheap, ethically produced and crowd pleasing. One for the gram as well as the gullet.
For the label artwork Keeling Andrew (Noble Rot) commissioned Jose Miguel Mendez, a long-standing Noble Rot magazine and book contributor, to create something that looks just as good on your mantlepiece as in your glass.
