Muscadet is an appellation marked by its proximity to the Atlantic, on the Western end of the Loire valley. The wines can vary from cheap bistro jug wine to ethereal, out of body experience inducing masterpieces. The combination of middling alcohol, extended lees ageing and an oceanic influence results in fresh and salty wines with a dense mouthfeel and a bready like vibe.
The Cotes de Grandlieu is a particularly fancy part of Muscadet, creating particularly intense wine, and the single vineyard `Clos de la Fine` adds extra weight.
The palate is full with notes of exotic and stone fruits. The weight and the rich bread-like character are added by aging the wine over winter on the its lees leaving a silky mouthfeel.
Bloody awesome with oysters. FYI.
