Barrel fermentation means the juice is left to actually undergo it's alcoholic fermentation in oak, not just aging in it, leading to a punchier style.
Malbec is grown in Patagonia, land of mountains, sun and probably yeti's and stuff. It's a magical place and it's bloody great for wine! This is rich and punchy but has a little more elegance and grace than a similar Malbec that you'd find in a Mendoza wine. It's a warming wine that's great for a cosy weekend evening with some burgers and a board game or two.
